Johnny Depp Closing in on Dark Shadows Adaptation

Vampires have never been more popular than they are right now due to the phenomenon known as Twilight and shows like HBO's "True Blood", but the granddaddy of all soapy vamp themed stuff has always been Dan Curtis' "Dark Shadows". A feature film re-imagining of this famed series may be even closer than we thought.

According to the MTV Movie Blog Sam Sarkar, an executive in Depp’s production company, Infinitum-Nihil, hinted that we might be seeing the makings of a new supernatural franchise.

Sarker went on to confirm that Depp is still very much attached to star in the film but it's up in the air whether or not long-time Depp collaborator Tim Burton will step aboard to direct.

"While all the pieces are not yet in place, Dark Shadows is still very much a go at Warner Bros," Sarkar tells MTV. “All I can say is that one is very active. The studio will be making some announcements regarding it pretty soon. Very soon, probably.”

Guess who's going to play Enid Blyton in a BBC4 drama about the children's author? OK, stop guessing, it's Helena Bonham Carter.

Sounds like she's pretty excited about it too... Helena (left) squeals: "It's a long time since I have read such a well-written script with as complex and fascinating a character as Enid.

"I hope I do her justice. And I hope I get to drink lashings of ginger beer."

Yay! I hope so too (and that Cook packs a whole ham for your picnic!) Now, tell Timmy not to lean out of the train, he'll get a smut in his eye... woof!

Helena and Bill Nighy (a brilliant man, my favorite movies of his was Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz) have been invited to a charity event in Suffolk. Money raised by the event, held at Holy Trinity Church next month, goes to the Sudbury-based charity Success After Stroke (SAS), a charity which supports those recovering from a stroke and which runs the candlelit concert.

Bruckheimer Talks Pirates 4 And Lone Ranger

Jerry Bruckheimer has been out and about, talking about the big projects he’s producing for Disney, in particular Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and The Lone Ranger. The guys at Coming Soon caught up with him, and got him to address some, if not all of the rumors surrounding those two projects.

He avoided addressing some of the more pressing rumors around Pirates, such as Tim Burton being considered to direct Pirates 4 or Russell Brand being cast in the film along with Depp, but he did drop some concrete facts about where things stand. For Pirates of the Caribbean 4, they’re just starting work on the script. Elliot and Rossio, who wrote the first three Pirates movies are back and working on the new sequel. It seems they’re also writing The Lone Ranger. Bruckheimer says they’re shooting for a 2012 release, and that they’ll do Pirates 4 in IMAX if they can.

As for The Lone Ranger, Bruckheimer laid some of those Clooney casting rumors to rest. Yes, Johnny Depp is playing Tonto, but Bruckheimer says they still don’t know who will be their Lone Ranger. They’re out to find a director for it first.

Some bad news for horror fans looking to see Johnny Depp return to the genre as Entertainment Weekly reports that the two of his upcoming projects appear to be on hold. "Two long-discussed Depp projects appear kaput for now: Shantaram, based on a novel about a heroin addict's adventures in India, and the movie version of the '60s vampire soap Dark Shadows, a childhood favorite of the actor's." Warner Bros. Pictures was set to bring Shadows to the big screen. Tim Burton was slated to direct the film, although he's now adapting the latest of Alice In Wonderland with Depp.

Michael Sheen joins 'Wonderland' and 'Unthinkable'

British actor Michael Sheen has joined the cast of Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland, so reports Variety.

The thespian, who is next seen in Ron Howard's Frost/ Nixon (as broadcaster David Frost), will also star opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Carrie Anne Moss in Unthinkable, directed by Gregor Jordan. That film looks at the ethics of torture after a terrorist threatening to detonate nuclear devices in the U.S. is questioned by a black-ops interrogator and an FBI agent, while 'Wonderland' is based on the popular children's story.

Alice In Wonderland is currently shooting in Cornwall, south-west England.

Several images from the Cornwall, England set of Tim Burton's next movie, the Walt Disney housed Alice In Wonderland, have been posted by Inf Daily. The new images show young Australian actress by the name of Mia Wasikowska on board some vessel shooting the film, along with Helena Bonham Carter and Burton himself.

Johnny Depp will also star in the film, which is set to hit theaters in 2010.
