Johnny Depp Confirmed as Mad Hatter in Alice

It's official, Johnny Depp to be the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. Now all there is to know is what Helena will play. ;)

HBC will not be in Wild Target anymore... =[

Rupert Grint (i.e. Ron from the Harry Potter films) has joined the film “Wild Target”. According to one of his fan web-sites Helena is not doing the film anymore and has been replaced by Emily Blunt. They got the information from Rupert’s agent:

Harry Potter Delay Makes For Outraged Fans and an Official Statement From Head of Warner Bros.

Alan Horn issues statement regarding HBP delay

Alan Horn, President of Warner Brothers, has issued a statement in response to the large amount of disappointment from their decision to delay Half-Blood Prince until July 17th, 2009:

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between "Half-Blood Prince" and the much-anticipated first part of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for "Half-Blood Prince," the wait from that film until "Deathly Hallows" will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

I think that it's bloody outrageous that the next Harry Potter movie has been bumped back to next year, and that Twilight will take it's place. If you all are worried about people not being excited for the movies now that the book series is over, and maybe you wanted to promote it better, but bumping it back is just upsetting everyone who's excited about it now.
From what I understand (entertainment weekly's article about it, muggle.net and rumors I've heard) you it to earn as much as dark knight did, but I think it's not worth it because now I (and my friends who I've talked to about it with) don't want to go out and see Warner films in the theater. So by postponing half blood release it's made me loose interest in the series and other movies (and now I won't be able to go and see twilight without thinking about how much better it would have been to see Harry Potter).
As you see this has obviously gotten people riled up (a petition with over 23000 signatures I understand), these are some things I've heard:
"...bloody people,naive,ignorant, LAME!", " Absolutely ridiculous... cowards!", and " Warner's decision was extremely empty-headed and pitifully stupid."

Waiting for Helena!

Sadly, as many of you have probably heard, the sixth installment of the popular "Harry Potter" films (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) has been postponed to hit theatres next summer. In Half-Blood Prince, Helena reprises the role of evil witch Bellatrix Lestrange, and seeks to please her master (the dark wizard Voldemort) in any way possible, be it hexing people... or killing them. Personally, I feel a bit like hexing Warner Bros. myself, but sadly I haven't any magical powers. If you all haven't died before Half-Blood Prince makes it's apperance on the 17th of July 2009, go and see it.

EXTRAS WANTED!

Tim Burton will be filming him newest move, Alice, in Plymouth, England and is looking for local talent as extras. They will by hiring up to 250 people and are looking for "girls with long hair and men with natural styles. Extras will get to dress up in Victorian period costume, corsets and wigs and will have their make-up done. We would also like people whose work allows the flexibility of two weeks’ worth of filming.”


Certain filming locations are still unknown but rumors suggest Saltram House, the Royal William Yard and Mount Edgcumb. Casting is Tomorrow and Thursday at 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm at the New Continental Hotel. Wannabes need to be 16 and over and should bring their passports with them, where they will be photographed and will meet casting directors.

Tim Burton Casts His Alice

Tim Burton and Walt Disney Pictures are in final talks with Australian actress Mia Wasikowska to star in Alice in Wonderland, Burton's take on Lewis Carroll's classic fantasy novel, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, based on a script by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King), will be produced by longtime Burton collaborator Richard Zanuck, former Disney chairman Joe Roth and Jennifer and Suzanne Todd. It will be shot with live-action and performance-capture footage and presented in Disney Digital 3-D.

Wasikowska got her start on the Aussie series "All Saints" and is a regular on HBO's "In Treatment." She next will appear opposite Daniel Craig in Ed Zwick's war drama Defiance and just completed filming the role of a young Amelia Earhart fan in Mira Nair's biopic Amelia starring Hilary Swank.

Principal photography starts in November.

It is still a question if Tim Burton will cast Helena in Alice. I also anticipate the regulars: Danny Elfman music (it wouldn't be a Burton film with out Elfman music behind it!) Coleen Atwood on costumes, and hopefully Christopher Lee and Deep Roy will have a part to play.

Rocker TOMMY LEE wants JOHNNY DEPP to play him in a movie based on MOTLEY CRUE's memoirs.
The drummer insists Depp is the perfect actor to portray him on the big screen - because he thinks he and the Pirates of The Caribbean star share many of the same character traits.

Exclusive Interview: DANNY ELFMAN FEELS THE BURN COMPOSING 'HELLBOY II' - PART TWO

The composer talks scoring for the big, red, one and his other projects he's working on

He may have once been the Oingo Bongo frontman but that was long ago and he is even more famous for his excellent work composing the biggest and best Hollywood blockbusters. Danny Elfman has a pair of films out this summer in WANTED and HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY. In our first part of the interview, Elfman chatted about WANTED. Here he talks HELLBOY II and making big red all the more exciting through sound.

iF: The closest cousin of your scores to HELLBOY is NIGHTBREED, a film where heroic monsters are accompanied with tribal percussion. They even have the same kind of “market” scene.

ELFMAN: NIGHTBREED is essentially a really romantic and somewhat old-fashioned score, like HELLBOY II’s. And I love it when a director will let me do something that's a nod to my own musical roots. When I finished one sequence, Guillermo turned to me and said, "You know, you're making me feel like I'm thirteen years old again with this music." And I said, "Well, this is the kind of stuff I listened to when I was thirteen." It was really fun to be able to do that in HELLBOY II - the thematic romanticism of the prince and princess. The whole thematic side of the Golden Army is very Hermann-esque. In the end, Guillermo and I really felt that we were scoring a George Pal / Ray Harryhausen film with HELLBOY II.

iF: There are also a lot of other, zanier musical elements to the score, especially with the 50's jazz sound that Hellboy and his team arrive with, or the Theremin that’s used on a carnivorous tooth fairy.

ELFMAN: Yes, we used the Theremin for the lighter, fun moments, especially when tooth fairy comes alive. There's a little bit of James Bondi-ness in there as well, which represents the tongue-in-cheek side of the Hellboy character. There are three times in the score when I got to do a funny thing where Hellboy makes his entrance with a huge musical fanfare, which is followed with him saying, “Hey, how you doing?” Guillermo couldn't make that music big enough! But that's his sense of humor.

iF: Was it hard for you to judge where HELLBOY II’s music should be wacky, and when it should be serious?

ELFMAN: No. It was so easy, because anytime we're on Hellboy just bomping around and doing his thing, then the music’s always going to be kind of tongue-in-cheek. And any time were on the Golden Army, the Prince and Princess, and even Abe Sapien, who falls in love, that side of the score is always going to be bigger and more romantic. So it was very easy in that sense, to know when to be funny, and then to suddenly turn on the dramatic juice.

iF: Is a score like HELLBOY II closer to your heart than anything else?

ELFMAN: I really can't say that it is, because there are always moments that I'm really pleased with in any score I do. On WANTED, I enjoyed myself every time I was writing that 'Russian' theme and the Steps of Fate theme. That 'thumping' sound was very close to my heart, and I could have done variations on that theme forever. And when I get to do the big old-fashioned Ju Ju for HELLBOY II, or the stuff that Tim Burton lets me do frequently, then that's also very close to my heart. So it's impossible to say that one score is more 'me.' I look in any movie for something that I can get my teeth into and have fun. I’m just lucky that WANTED and HELLBOY II had a lot of those moments.

(I personally think that the Edward Scissorhands score and Nightmare Before Christmas pretty much sum up Elfman and are some of his best work. But I also think that Oingo Boingo really defines him as well. You can always tell an Elfman theme be it from a Burton movie or the Simpsons theme, it's such a unique sound. As you can tell I really admire Danny Elfman and love everything he does!)

Note: I saw Hellboy 2: the golden army (featuring one of Danny Elfman's Latest movie scores) and would recommend anyone to see it, the music was great of course, the story line was mesed up though. Abe Sepian wasn't voiced by David Hyde Pierce which was an unplesant shock, and minor details kept catching my attention which dissagreed with the first movie (like liz's character). On the other hand, the visual effects were outstanding, and if you can eccept the diffrences that the sequal has to the first, I think it will be an enjoyable movie to go see, it is one that you should see on the big screen.

"That’s one of the reasons why I did my career that way I did it, was because of guys like that. I worked with John Waters and people said, ‘Oh, what do you want to do a John Waters movie for?’ Because it’s John Waters, I want to go for that experience. Hellboy II: The Golden Army

On July 11th (US) the second Hellboy movie comes to theaters, which is accompanied by Danny Elfman Music, just to give everyone a heads up on how to plan their Friday. =]

Before we get started, I just want to make it clear that in Hollywood nothing is ever official until you see the press release (and you should probably take the following news with a big grain of salt). Over at the Alice in Wonderland fan site, talk has surfaced that Tim Burton has finally cast Alice in his live-action version of Alice in Wonderland (not to be confused with the long-suffering American McGee creation).

According to the commenter, Ian B: "My brother is working on the movie and he said Alice has been cast. He is a music supervisor for the movie and said there will be a press release about it on July 9th. The role was originally supposed to be Evan Rachel Woods but she backed out. Alice won't be played by a child but a 23 year old. From what I was told it's her first Burton movie, and her first big role in a film that will be released world wide." So who's the lucky gal? Say hello to Ryan Nikole Parker. Parker is not very well known, and other than a few TV credits is a relative newcomer to the business.

Burton struck the deal for Alice with Disney back in November, and according to comments on the IMDB message boards, he's already finished casting. Luckily for us, July 9th isn't that far away, so we won't be waiting long for the official word.
